hayao miyazaki top 3.

hayao miyazaki
film director, animator, screenwriter, manga artist

This man is a legend. Born in Tokyo, 1941, the 72-year old just retired.
He will not direct feature anime films… and we are all sad about it.
The founder of Studio Ghibli (along with Isao Takahata) has a career
history over 50 years.

“The Castle of Cagliostro” was released in 1979, his first theatrical
feature as a director (pre-Ghibli). The car chase at the beginning of
the film was allegedly praised by Steven Spielberg.
His latest, and last movie “The Wind Rises” is still an atop in the Japanese
BO a month and a half after its July 20 bow and is on track to finish near the
$150 million mark. These two are the first and the last films of Miyazaki,
he has a lot more movies but too much to write about… maybe in another post.
Here is my top 3, must see of this talented legend.

Nr 1. Howl’s Moving Castle.

My all time fav. A beautiful story about witches, love and magic.
Christian Bale, is the english dubbed voice of Howl. It doesn’t get any better than this! (for me)

Facts: World premiere on September 5, 2004. Nominated for the Academy
Award for Best Animated Feature at the78th Academy Awards in 2006.
“There’s a word for the kind of comic, dramatic, romantic,
transporting visions Miyazaki achieves in Howl’s: bliss.” – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Nr 2. Spirited Away.

I couldn’t choose between Howl’s moving castle, or Spirited Away for my nr.1 choice.
That’s how good this movie is. I’ve seen it almost 10 times and i never get bored.

Facts: Release date July 20, 2001. Japan’s biggest hit of all time, earned $304 million domestically.
It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Academy Awards,
the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival, and is among
the top ten in the BFI list of the 50 films you should see by the age of 14.
Acclaimed by international critics, the movie was considered one of the best
films of the 2000s decade and one of the greatest animated films of all time.

Nr 3. Princess Mononoke.

We humans pollute our atmosphere, destroy nature and kill animals in a cruel way.
This movie, is one of the greatest anime stories. It’s fantasy, but i guess in a away,
reality. You should watch this.

Facts: Release date July 12, 1997. Princess Mononoke has won a lot of awards/prizes,
i can’t even post them all for you… but if you’re interested, here is a list.
